Landlords fall under HMRC’s gaze

HMRC is stepping up its campaign against rogue landlords, with plans to send 40,000 letters to buy-to-let investors it suspects of avoiding tax. The letters warn landlords they face a large fine or criminal prosecution if they fail to make contact to arrange their affairs. The Revenue has reportedly employed more staff with the aim of retrieving the £500m underpaid each year.
